December 2025 | The Family Lab
The holidays are often painted as magical—but for many moms, they’re also exhausting. Between shopping lists, school events, emotional labor, and keeping traditions alive, your needs can quietly slide to the bottom of the list.
So let me say this clearly, mama: you deserve rest, too.
You are the one holding the schedules, the snacks, the emotions, and the invisible weight of keeping everything running. You’re being pulled in a dozen directions—and yet, you still show up. Even when you’re tired. Even when no one notices.
This month, I want you to pause and celebrate you.
Because taking time for yourself isn’t selfish.
It’s essential.
Rest is what allows you to keep showing up with patience, love, and grace. And you are worthy of that care—not after everything is done, but now.
A Gentle Practice: The 5-Minute Daily Reset
If self-care feels overwhelming or out of reach, start small. These five-minute resets can be woven into even the busiest days:
- Step outside, close your eyes, and take five slow, grounding breaths
- Sip your coffee or tea in silence before anyone wakes up
- Play one song that fills your spirit—and just be
- Write one sentence in a journal: “Today, I’m proud of myself for…”
- End the night with gratitude—thank God for one small moment of peace or joy
These tiny pauses send a powerful message to your nervous system:
I’m safe. I’m cared for. I matter too.
Year-End Reflection: Pause Before You Plan
Before jumping into resolutions or goals for the new year, give yourself space to reflect with grace.
Ask yourself:
- What did I learn about myself this year?
- What challenges did I overcome that once felt impossible?
- What moments—even small ones—made me feel most alive and connected?
Write them down. Sit with them. Honor them.
Progress isn’t always loud or visible. Sometimes it looks like choosing calm over chaos, saying no when you used to say yes, or offering yourself grace when things didn’t go as planned.
That counts.
It all counts.
Faith Reflection: Rest Is Holy
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28
Even God modeled rest.
It’s not a luxury—it’s a sacred practice.
When you give yourself permission to rest, you’re honoring who you are and how you were created. This season, try offering yourself the same compassion you so freely give to everyone else.
